What Other
Guys are Saying
. .

"Yoga keeps me strong, lean, and healthy. It's an excellent off-season practice to heal my body from the rigors of soccer."
                            Aaron Sawyer

"As a swimmer, yoga is another fabulous way to be with my body and my breath."
                            Thanks,
                            Dave McCleery

"Practicing yoga has been beneficial to my body in endurance mountain bike racing. I feel that building this type of strength, stability, and flexibility has helped me ride faster, longer, and injury free."
                             Take care,
                             Jeff Bonsall

"After an active day of work, a yoga class in the evening is a way for me to remove all the stress of the day and become grounded back to the earth. Yoga also cleanses my body and spirit of any negative energy. When I leave a yoga class with Thomas or Tataya, I feel lighter. have more energy, am more positive, and wear a smile on my face. My goal is to try to keep that feeling with me throughout my day. I'm not always able to, but I try."
                             Gary Herrman

"Yoga strengthens and grounds me firmly in my body and mind. Thomas and Tayata continuously demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm in their approach to yoga. Not only do they provide meaningful guidance in the execution of asanas but also in the development of intentions for yoga and for life."
                             Steve Kuhn

Quote of the Month

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.

A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:

'Whatever you can do or dream you
     can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in
     it!'"

          ~W.H. Murray, from The Scottish

Who Said Yoga Was Only for Women?

September Salutations everyone!

Thomas and I were debating about who should do the opening article for the newsletter. Since we wanted to dispel the idea that yoga is just for women, and Thomas is a man. . . he seemed the natural choice, right? Then I suddenly realized that all my teachers have been men! Well, at least, the vast majority. Anthony Bogart, who is coming next month, is one of the most amazing teachers I have encountered. And if we go to the roots of yoga in India, there are famous yogis who are still living, and they are all men: Patabijois, Iyengar, and Osho and others. So, yes, yoga is for everyone! We encounter men all the time who say, "Oh, no, that's for ladies . . . that's a women's thing." Thomas and I are extending a special invitation to all of you who feel yoga is not for you. Come give it a try. You will experience something unique that will uplift, surprise, and inspire you.

Thank you to men behind the scenes: to Gary Herrman who is diligently working on our new website and to John Keller for taking some amazing photos of us!

                                                                       Namaste,
                                                                       Tataya (^-^)

"It's all about the breath":
 A Man's Yoga Story

Nadar
Sepahpur

Nadar Cow PoseI promised myself I would enter my 40's with yoga because I wanted to be in better shape. My wife Ingrid has been practicing yoga for several years, and I knew it would be good for me. Then last year in August, I had a freak accident on my motor scooter. I lost my balance and put my foot down shattering a bone and snapping ligaments in my leg. The clear message to me was, "Slow down."

After five months on crutches and in physical therapy, I was ready to keep my promise concerning yoga. It only took one class, and I was hooked. I think all of us who practice with Thomas and Tataya feel the same way. You're in the room with them, and you become committed to yoga. Their enthusiasm is contagious!

Since I began practicing, I have regained my confidence and become more present. I love how I feel. Yoga has helped me in everything. Weightlifting technique has improved with more attention to alignment and better core strength. I sit on my bicycle with better posture, and that's made riding more comfortable and efficient. My standing posture has improved which is important since I'm on my feet all day. I've watched aches and pains I thought were permanent in my hip and shoulder disappear. Most important has been the focus on the breath. But it's not just about the physical with Thomas and Tataya who rank right up there with a few teachers who've changed my life. It's the spirituality as well. They calm my mind. Now, "Slow down and be present," is part of my life.

Book of the Month--Real Men Do Yoga

Author and sports writer, John Capouya says what yogis have always known--that yoga is a complex form of exercise that can increase flexibility, build muscle energy and functional strength and help prevent sports injuries. The book features testimonials and impressive photos of several pro athletes and also photos of ordinary looking guys. Although the book's primary focus is on the physical aspects of yoga, it has much to offer.

In grace and gratitude,

Tataya and Thomas Radtke
