God Makes the Rivers to Flow
: Sacred Literature of the World
by Eknath Easwaran
Drawing from Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and Native American sacred literature and chosen for their universal spiritual appeal, literary merit, and recognized
wisdom, these selections are perfect subjects for meditation and daily
inspirational reading.
The author notes in the beginning: "This book is a very personal one.
It itself is rather like a river, flowing through a country which is
home for all of us but which very, very few have seen: the land of
unity, in which all of creation is one and full of God."

Testimonial from visiting practitioner, Courtney Keller
I love coming to Yoga Body and Balance when I visit from Austin, Texas. You might think that Austin has a million yoga studios, and that I'd have my pick; and in a way you're right. I have a couple favorites, but neither measure up to YB&B in the sense of personal touch and multi-sense experience. The individual moments that Tataya gives each student, whether it's helping to deepen a pose, or coming around towards the end of class with a relaxing eye pillow and a touch of essential oils -- I always leave feeling like I've been at the spa. That kind of special touch is unusual, and people practicing here on a regular basis are so lucky to have it!

W e're back to a regular schedule. What a summer it's been! Every year
as summer approaches I have a huge plan and list of things I want to
do. But no matter how much I plan, it seems life has a plan of its
own. Something that's been on my mind since the new teachers and I
offered the Equanimity and Balance Workshops is the importance of
embracing the sweetness and bitterness of life . . . going with the
flow. As we worked on opening and creating balance through the chakra
system, one thing that came up was this: "It is what it is, and by
judging it, you won't change it."
So
I've been incorporating this every day as plans I've made sometimes slip through
my hands. All ll I have is each moment that presents itself to me. . .
sometimes sweet and other times bitter. . . and the knowing that my resistance
will only bring suffering. If I'm able to soften, and breathe, and let
go, it makes all things easier.
As
summer moves into fall at a fast pace, think about resting in the flow
of things. Use your exhalation to release resistance to the internal
challenges facing you and your asana practice to release any
physical tensions and to find your own natural flow of life. I look
forward to seeing you in class and back in the "flow" of a regular
schedule.
With love and gratitude, Tataya

What's Happening in September Survey is coming Soon you will be receiving in your mailbox an invitation to reply to a survey.
We will be creating a new schedule of classes to begin October 1, and
we want to hear your voice. Please participate in the survey, and let us
know your needs and specific interests, so we can best serve you!
Special Request YBB is growing -- like me! Starting September 1, we are requesting those of you who bring your own mats to bring a mat bag or strap to hang your personal mat in the changing room.
As you well know, the space in the yoga mat closet is very limited now
thanks to all our great practitioners! We want to do our best to keep
the space open and clear for you to use. If you don't have a yoga mat
bag and would like one, we have handmade ones at a good price.
We have so many good things to share with you in this newsletter, so if time is limited right now, save it to savor later. And don't forget! (^-^) Tataya

New!
Women's
Circle
1:00
-2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20th
We
come to yoga classes for different reasons. Whether you're seeking
enlightenment, a hot bod, or the flexibility to tie your shoes, what's revealed by yoga
practice is remarkable.
For
a while now, we've harbored a desire to create a small group of
women who share the intention to work with the Self. But, as we all
know, there is so much else to be done. Enlightenment, sure - but,
first, the laundry...
This
is why we're thrilled to announce the beginning of Women's
Circle, with Lisa and Tataya.
Our
intention is to offer a time and space for women to connect and
support one another in cultivating the self. We'll begin by
bringing something for the group to read, listen to, look at, or
reflect upon. There's no "homework" in this group - come to
sit and just be. You don't have to do anything except
have an experience.
Here
are some topics we might consider as a group:
~ Ayurveda ~ Spirit
(inclusive of all traditions) ~ Yogic
philosophy ~ Mantra
and japa practice ~ Natural
healing ~ Meditation
Besides
these initial brainstorms, we hope to create a group where you can
feel free to help us shape our circle by suggesting materials you
find inspirational or thought-provoking as you go along your
individual path.
We'll
just see what happens - and go from there. Please join us.
We
plan to meet about once a month. Our first circle will be held in
September. (There
is no cost associated with participating in the group.)
If
you do plan to attend, please email Lisa at LisaGMunger@gmail.com
or Tataya at Tataya@yogabodyandbalance.com
or call the studio at 489-9642, so we know how many people to expect.

Yoga Therapy Training
with Anthony Bogart
September 25-27 AND November 6-7
If you still haven't heard about Anthony Bogart's workshop coming to Lincoln, please take note!
Our
mentor and teacher is coming here from Colorado to share his new book
in yoga therapy. When I spoke to him recently, he said that whether you are a
health professional or a serious practitioner, this workshop will give
you the tools to assist yourself or anyone else with any kinks,
complaints, or issues in their bodies! Whoa. What a statement! So check
the flyer on our website and give yourself a chance to experience
self-healing through yoga therapy.
Go here for more information.
You'll find a link to the flyer in the left column, and you can register and pay by clicking on the red link at the top of the home page.

 Cooling
fiery pitta
By
LISA MUNGER
Ayurveda
is considered yoga's sister science - the science of life.
Ayurveda views the world - including humans - as manifestations of
the five elements - fire, water, earth, air and space. Each person
has a unique constellation of these elements, with one or two most
dominant.
During
the summer season, no matter what one's constitution, the fire
element increases in us, just as it increases in our environment.
Particularly for people of pitta dosha (constitutions most likely to
be thrown out of whack by too much fire), hot weather presents
challenges in keeping our bodies and minds balanced. Energy, ambition
and aggression are the primary qualities of pitta.
"Born
of the radiating energy of the universe, pittas transform ideas into
reality."
Ayurveda
teaches that health is our natural, balanced state. By understanding
how to cultivate balance through lifestyle, yoga, regulating the
systems of the body, diet and herbs, we can move toward
balance.
When pitta is high, there are several ways it
manifests in the body:
Fever,
acne, inflammation (especially of the skin)
Eye
strain (sensation of burning)
Indigestion,
diarrhea
Skin
rashes, sores or ulcers
Bad
breath and body odor
Excessive
sweating
Hyper-acidity,
(acid reflux or acidic stomach)
...and
in the mind:
Competitiveness
Aggression
Anger
Jealousy
Need
to control
If
you notice these symptoms, it may mean pitta has collected in excess
in the body. There are many ways to cool and pacify pitta.
Diet:
Choose
sweet, juicy fruits like melons, plums, and peaches.
Include
vegetables that are bitter and astringent such as kale, green beans
and spring mix greens.
Add
digestive spices to your food such as cumin, coriander, fennel and
turmeric.
Limit
hot, spicy, fermented, salty, oily, fried foods.
Reduce
or eliminate alcohol and caffeine. These substances are both sharp
and hot, provoking to pitta dosha.
Drink
plenty of cool, fresh water. Staying well hydrated helps the body to
flush away toxins.
Lifestyle:
Take
a dip in cool water. If a natural spring, have a cool soak in a pool
or your bathtub.
Take
breaks, meditate, chant, or sing to relax the reactive emotions of
high stress situations or stressful job environments.
Seek
out pleasantly sweet company.
Try
not to exercise during the heat of the day. Plan to exercise in the
cool morning, or evening hours.
Yoga: Let
go of your competitive nature and bring qualities of softness and
compassion to your yoga practice. For beginners, adding forward
bends, such as uttanasana (standing forward bend) to your practice
will bring more cooling energy into your body. For more experienced
yoginis and yogis, Moon Salutations are the ideal series of postures
for balancing pitta dosha. Increase twisting during this season to
wring out the liver and spleen, both organs of pitta dosha that work
to purify and protect healthy blood.
