Quotation of the Month
"People
usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think
the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to
walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't
even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black,
curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle." ~Thich Nhat Hanh

The other day I had a juicy conversation with my sister who is a painter. She was telling me about what her art teacher told her students: "All of life is a cycle -- so even when an artist faces the canvas, there is a point of 'chaos.' That chaos is a pause in the cycle giving rise to other opportunities." She said that in the 60's people would paint -- pause -- and smoke, but because it's not cool to smoke anymore, now people paint -- pause -- and check their cellphone (^_^)!
My sister and I also talked about how we are always so focused on "getting" somewhere versus "being" somewhere. We get lost in putting all our energies in the outcome and miss the beauty of the process. It seems we usually want to be where we're not, and we miss the magical beauties in between.
If you think about it, life is filled with more transitions (the getting somewhere) than the actually arriving. How perfect this theme is when we bring it to the mat. We're all eager to get into the handstand, right? But what happens in between -- the lunge and the kicking up? We usually focus in the asana (posture) part of the practice: standing (Tadasana), into forward bend (Uttanasana), into lunge (Vanarasana), but what is happening in the transitions -- the breath that is inviting the movement and the mind dancing with all of it at the same time?
So, my yogi practitioners, I invite you today to pay attention to the transitions, not only on your mats, but in your life, especially with this very white and passionate winter! Embrace it. . . love it. . .because the transition is already moving us into spring. Don't let the time slide through your fingers. It's all a matter of mindfulness . . . and transitions! Mmmm. . . I find it's a beautiful word. We look forward to seeing you on the mat! Peace, Love & Yoga Tataya

Stars in Our World Many of you have heard the story about our decision to stay in Lincoln a few years ago and not to move to California as we had planned. In short what held us here was -- you -- the people we met -- the connections we made. So many of you have shined light in our lives, but this month, we want to point to a couple of our stars!
A few weeks ago, Thomas had a stiff neck and went to see our chiropracter Bo Bryson. He told him, "Bo, I really need to get better because tomorrow I have eight hours of massage, and I need to move my entire family to our new home." It turns out that Bo had moved that week himself and six guys had shown up to help. Not only did he help Thomas feel better, he called to offer to help us move! "What a great guy," we said. What a great human being. And just as he said, the next day he spent his whole Saturday moving and carrying boxes. We wouldn't have done it without him OR without our friend and practitioner Gary Herrman, the other awesome star who made our move possible and turned our day of stress into a day of joy -- a beautiful transition!
Here's how to learn more about or to contact Bo: www.trinitychiro.com or http://www.circleme.me/

 Mindfulness and Letting Go
by Lu MiliusSince March is Memory Month, it prompted me to share with you a review of an article on mindfulness. Do
you often wonder how you can be present while letting the mind go? Do
you find yourself thinking, "I'm here in the room. I made it to
class, so yes, I'm present"? Then you start noticing your back is
hurting while sitting so upright; the blanket is lumpy, and it itches. You're noticing it's
too hot in here; you start wondering, "Did I shut the garage door? lock my car?" " I sure hope
this class ends on time. Yes, I'm mindful." Your dialogue
continues, "Where are my sitz bones? I know I'm breathing; this
hurts! I can do this. It's only an hour, then I need to .... Yes,
I'm getting centered." Sound familiar? For some of us, becoming
mindful is a new concept. How does it all happen?
Frank
Boccio provides us with insight in his article Taking Mindfulness to the Mat.
He presents a unique combination of Hatha yoga movement and breath
awareness based on the Buddha's four foundations of mindfulness:
body, mind, feelings, and dharma. Buccio explains each foundation and
its relationship to the practice of mindfulness and gives a clear and
concise guide for anyone from the beginner to the experienced yogi.
Following his gentle guidance deepens the process of mindfulness
toward embodiment.
I wanted to share with you the memory and mindfulness connection. Not
long ago, a fellow yogi who has Alzheimer's disease came to practice at YBB. She
scurried around in an anxious mood, but once on her mat -- her entire
being let go.
She became totally mindful, at one with her body -- embodiment in witness. My fellow yogi taught me a great deal: Even when the mind is
fleeting, there is such possibility -- when the mind lets go, there is connection
with the self, the inner being. I thank her for sharing this!
This poem written in 1942 by William
Stafford beckons us to see beyond reality. I dedicate it to those experiencing memory loss.
Like
a Little Stone
Like a little stone, feel the shadow of the great earth;
let distance pierce you till you cling to trees.
That the world may be all the same,
close your eyes till everything is,
and the farthest sand can vote.
Making the world be big by hunting its opposite,
go out gleaning for lost lions
that are terrified by valleys of still lambs,
for hummingbirds that dream before each wingbeat,
for the mole that met the sun.
If time won't let a thing happen, hurry there,
to the little end of the cone that darkness bends.
Any place where you turn but might have gone on,
all possibilities need you there.
The centers of stones need your prayers.
